What are some good RPGs?

Preferably I'm looking for JRPGs (the japanese style ones), but any good RPG is fine too. It needs to be for either the ps2 or ps3 and needs a good, developed storyline with well thought out characters. Some comedy is always a plus. And can you give me a short explanation of what the game is like: gameplay, etc.? Thanks.

FFXIII is a good game, but it doesn't live up to the FF name. Very linear, and no towns which is just stupid.

Demon Souls for the PS3 is an amazing game. This is for players who REALLY want a challenge and are tired of devs milking down games for the noobs making them easy pieces of cake. A true gamers game to the fullest. =)What are some good RPGs?
