Gameplay in Awakening is exactly the same as Origins. You are just higher level and there are some new specializations. The story and companions are good too, but it's just an expansion so it's not that long. If you can only buy one I would get DA2. You aren't missing much by skipping Awakening and the DLC. I would go with II. It has a great combat system, wonderful story, great characters. It is shorter than origins. The DLC for Origins is alright, but overpriced. They have nice stories but the gameplay is ehhh.
Anyway thats what I think: II is just an all around better game
Get awakenings and the rest of the downloadable packs. I just got Dragon Age Origins with Awakenings and the downloadble content all included on the same game.
